GaathIn The City

“Gaatha In The City” our aim to unveil Gaatha - Mumbai International Storytelling Festival 2024 to all the Schools in Mumbai.

In the month of September / October, 17 Mumbai Storytellers visited over 14 schools across Mumbai to tell stories to the Elementary, Primary and Secondary grade students on the theme "Mukhauta - Mask”

It is remarkable how the mask is a tool of transformation.

The stories allowed students to understand the layers that are concealed within the story. It unlocked a sense of play that many of us as young children have, where we engage fully with our imagination without inhibition.

The students were fully able to tap into their imaginations and it was evident that the mask unlocked that [childlike] freedom. They were able to reappraise the story and "Look Again".

Our aim was to offer Reflection after the story was told. Encouraged students to
Think Out Of The Box.”

Some questions that arose from the story were:

1. Do modern interpretations infuse relatability relevant to contemporary experience?

2. Does the story offer alternative perspectives, challenging traditional narratives?

3. Can you see this familiar story through diverse and evolving cultural lenses?

4. Were the stories thought-provoking? Promoted divergent thinking?
